LEO
TRANSITION was developed to complement and collaborate with its sister innovation project, Local Energy Oxfordshire (LEO), one of the UK’s most ambitious, wide-ranging and innovative energy trials, seeking to accelerate the UK’s transition to a zero carbon energy system.
Through LEO, SSEN worked with nine partners from business, academia, social enterprise and local government, to understand how electricity networks can make full use of network capacity and support local communities’ net zero ambitions. The project demonstrated how a functioning Smart Local Energy System (SLES) can maximise economic, environmental, and social prosperity whilst improving customer engagement in flexibility markets.
TRANSITION supported LEO’s objectives by building the trading platform and services to allow new participants to engage in flexibility trading. Together the teams built a broad range of reliable evidence of the technological, market and social conditions needed for a greener, more flexible and fair electricity system.
LEO concluded in March 2023 and you can read the Summary Report on Key Learnings from Trials, here.
